I wanted to take a minute to write about our last day in Uganda. We went to the crafts market in Kampalato do a little shopping then headed to Buloba. We ate a little snack then hung out with our friends. Pastor Eva handed out the triggerlights Becky got donated. The adults love them. Then Eva passed out tshirts and toothbrushes to the kids. Most of the tshirts started out backwards because they wanted the bigger picture on the front. I had to explain to a few parents that they actually go on the other way around.
One of the cutest sassiest kids I know there, Esther, was brushing her teeth without water or toothpaste while wearing her Auburn Pediatric Dentistry shirt on backwards. Cute stuff.
I picked up the goods that the women have been working on- mats, some bowls, and some other random items. The women will be working on learning how to make bowls and necklaces between now and when we return. They are very excited about having the ability to make things for income. I won’t say too much here, but we will be sharing a couple of stories in the future.
We then went into the temporary church building and Josh shared a few things. Mostly to say thank you for all the blessing that the people of Buloba have poured out on us. And partly to let them know that we will be praying for them. We all circled up around Pastor Eva and prayed for her and her church. I cannot share all the details, but there are things that Buloba church is up against which make things difficult for that congregation. God can and I believe WILL use it for His glory. I just ask that you join with me in praying for Eva, the elders, and that community of believers.
We sadly left Buloba with tears in our eyes- some with tears running down their faces. I was reminded of Lisa and my trip last April- the kids were so reserved and scared looking. This time the kids love and hug and laugh mostly unreserved. There were even a few that were crying as we drove away. They indeed have become our friends. It has been so amazing to see the change God has done there since last April. It is humbling.
We ate our last meal then headed to the airport under a beautiful Ugandan sunset/moonrise. Our journey home was mostly uneventful. I think most of us definitely slept more than watched movies like our trip over to Uganda. We got to rest in these amazing lounge chairs that Amsterdam’s airport has. Spencer and Robin picked us up and we made our mandatory stop over at Chick Fil A- a dwarf house no less! Thanks to both of them for driving and giving up their time.
I forgot to mention that Josh has a blog that he was updating while in Uganda. It doesn’t have a bookmark at the church page yet but it is easy to remember- www.joshagerton.com.
Thanks to all who prayed, helped fund, gave donations of supplies, and everything else to make our trip possible. I cannot tell you how much your investment means to the lives of our friends in Uganda. You still have an opportunity that can touch an individual life- child sponsorship. Another post on that is coming….
