Ever have one of those weeks? You know, the week where everything seems fine. But nothing really seems fine? When murphy’s law seems to be conspiring against you. Not only with “What can go wrong, will” But it will at the most amazing wrong time?
Week before last I had a good bit of time off. Was house sitting for some folks with the sweetest dog ever. A gecko, and a bearded dragon. Yep folks, you read that right- a bearded dragon. Still looking for the beard…but his name is Helios and here he is:
I got to the house to start my pet and house sitting and couldn’t get in. Seems the garage door opener opened the third garage. That doesn’t actually open into the house. After a couple of texts, hidden key was procured. Minor crisis over.
Then Wednesday came. Chick Fil A appreciation day. And boy did we feel appreciated. To the point of no breaks, seriously wondering if the crowd would ever stop coming, the police asking us what did we plan to do with the cars backed up out of Tigertown onto 280 (um really? What are WE going to do?”) and working over the end of my shift (I would have stayed longer but there was a dog with a need to potty situation going on). Oh and somewhere during the craziness I banged my LEFT elbow. Hard. Like “now it hurts” hard.
Then Thursday came. Glorious second day off. It ended at a dinner for Four Corners Ministries. I got to sit with some of my peeps- Sherri and Ron McCollum. A God type moment. Fabulous food. Marvelous cheesecake. Wonderful and God filled conversation at my table and from the stage. And then Murphy caught me. I was headed to my car out across a grassy space and stepped down off the curb into darkness I couldn’t see just below the edge of the regular size curb. And there was something else there. Don’t know what. Do know it knocked me off balance. I stumbled, tried hard to catch myself.
Failed miserably. Faaaaaalllllling Doowwwwwwwwwwn onto my elbow and Right shoulder. As I rolled to get up off the ground I heard a voice in the distance “you ok?” I thought it was my peeps. It wasn’t. It was strangers. One of them had his arm in a sling strapped to his chest- like when you have had shoulder surgery. (Don’t ever tell me God doesn’t have a sense of humor). I said “Im fine!” With as much confidence as my wounded pride could muster. And I hobbled over to my car. And got in my car and thought my arm would fall off.
I called a friend on the way home laughing about how ridiculous it is that I can’t even step off a curb without biting it. And how I fell on the same elbow. And how I honestly am praying nothing is broken. Then I got home. And realized it was the OTHER elbow I fell on. Seems that when you hurt something it seems to sometimes make you forget the lesser hurt of the other hurting thing.
Granmaw (Ive picked up the name old lady at work lately) is still hurting. Drugs are a wonderful thing. That and those sticky heat wrap things. Shout out to Sporty and her crew for dropping some off to me at work Friday. You rock the Casba.
Coming soon a post that shows you the other side of the story. The side that is a little more grey. And rough. And a tad ugly.
See you tomorrow. I will leave the light on for you.
