Fridays for me at Emmanuel feel very long. I have to be down in the yard by 5am. We do our regular routine but have to have things done for the most part by 6. 6am everyone on campus (well, not the littlests) comes down to our yard for Big Circle. This is what Big Circle looked like the second week I was here.
My girls start in the left side of the photo where there is a gap and goes up to the top of the photo to the corner of that little house that is third from the right.
After Big Circle we have more time to kill (depending on who spoke and how long they took). Then after breakfast more time to kill.
Well after Big Circle this past week we all got in line in front of our kitchen/dining room (which is located immediately behind that second from the right building. You can see part of the structure in the photo.) Then we started to walk past the warehouse towards the boys area of campus. I asked one of the in charge folks for my Girls and she said something about the kitchen. I couldn't hear her… so I thought well we are going to pick up something at the warehouse. Thats strange because usually they bring stuff to us.
We walked past the warehouse and then on up a hill. And I thought "maybe we are going to get firewood" Sure enough we were. There wasn't a lot available but each girl was supposed to get some wood. Share a heavy piece with a friend and then walk back to our kitchen. Awesome way to kill time. Awesome way to fill a need. haha
Some girls weren't too agreeable (imagine that…teenagers not agreeable). One girl who continually gives me fits about cleaning when she is supposed to and not standing around or distracting others who are cleaning had a piece of wood. And after about 20 yards put it down and left it.
I called her name and reminded her she left her wood. Then a little ways down the road she tried to give it to another girl (who was carrying 2 pieces mind you). I called her name again and reminded her it was hers.
The rest of the way back I saw her continually looking back at me to see if I had my head her direction. Totally cracked me up.
So anytime you come on down and wanna take a walk I can show you where some firewood is. Or I can send my little friend with you to help 🙂 That would be her in mid frame below…shifting her hold on her wood.
Bless them. They try so hard. And then they just try so hard. But I love em. They are mine. In this thing somehow sorta together.
