So some of you who love me should have been my voice of reason last night and said- Andi. Chill. tomorrow will be fine. For indeed it was.
On our way through Kampala we saw a line of about 15 people lined up by the road. I thought they were waiting for a taxi van. Patrick pulled over and asked what was up. Turns out there was a guy in the ditch i somehow missed seeing. He was a thief-he got caught. They killed him. The police were on the way. Evidently a good thief is one that doesn't get caught. A bad thief who is caught typically is beaten, stoned, or set on fire for his offense. Ouch. Otherwise if they go to jail Patrick said it is for life. wow. Note to self.
I got to Buloba and got to visit Godfrey, Esther, Kevin and several others in the Sponsorship office. And then spend some time seeing the new classrooms they built since I was there last in 2009. For you old team folks…it's amazing to see. Kevin said that they anticipate a new classroom every year as their kids get older and need the next level.
I got to go to Buloba School down the other part of town to meet a few of the sponsor kids while in class. Unfortunately I did not keep good records and it is hard to keep up with which class was which in the phots and can't point out your kids. But I will work on that tonight and see if I can figure it out and post them. But Here is a picture of just a part of the school. It is quite large school and has boarding for kids who are from far away. I am continually amazed at how quiet the classes are! They are there to study! Class is a privilege, not a right. And they study!
That would be 70 1st grade kids… so well behaved.
Then I got to eat lunch with Pastor Eva and talk a little with Pastor Isaac. And sit with Resty and Rahman (How did i end up picking 2 of the most shy children ever!?) They hardly say a word. Then i got to meet Efrance- Wren Belcher's sponsor child. She was so sweet. Softspoken but would smile in a second. We made silly faces in the car on the way to her house. She lives down past the church-through the swamp and just on the other side of the voodoo shrine (for those of you who have been there before…her house is right by where we encountered the drunk guy several trips.)
Her brother in red can run like lightning. He ran from the house to the kitchen in about 2 seconds. her mother had to change after she knew why we were there. She had been working in the garden and was in the kitchen. They were so grateful for the gifts and for being able to get her school fees paid. I texted Ashley when I was at Buloba church to tell her I was with Efrance. She texted me back and I had Efrance read the message…she was so excited. I almost cried just explaining to her mother what a pleasure it is to be able to sponsor her. And I read Ashley's text to her mother. And yep. pretty much started to cry. i could tell that Efrance treasured the picture as she didn't want to put it back in her bag. Such a blessing.
On the way home Patrick stopped to buy avacado from a lady- he likes to buy from ladies on the street because they are working- not wanting a handout.
Tomorrow I will go shopping for a few things for my kids and for Becky Williams little girl then spend more time in Buloba. Sunday I will be giving gifts to the other children at church since they are in school and the adults didn't want to give them at school or have them miss any school.
Oh. And I got to go down to Gaba Bible College- down from Buloba church. The big former school that Gaba bought. I spoke with the director some and explained what I am doing. I have his card and will be in futher contact about some possible opportunity.
Thank you thank you thank you for your prayers. I continually feel them. And continually need them as I try to sort out what the future looks like…
