I sort of got back on the work out train yesterday. But couch to 10k and a Jillian Michaels workout on the same day is probably not the best way to kick it off. But I survived. And I am sure I am the better for it. (Although strange things hurt today…)
My point? There is one. As I was running on the treadmill I was thinking about Transitions. We are all in them. And for the most part we all tend to not like them. Another word for it is change. But not really. Because sometimes in transition we are just waiting. For whatever is next. And sometimes we don’t know what is next.
I look around at those in my life who are in transition. Some to something new. Some back to something they know. Some to marriage. Some to kids. Another kid, their first kid. A new job. A new home. A new j.o.b. Kids growing up. Learning to drive. Going to 1st grade. Learning how to write. New relationships. Friendships ending. Others beginning.
And I think about how hard it is to grasp too often what another’s life may look like. Because of this transition thing. The uncertainty. Or sometimes the Certainty that can only exist in that one person’s life that they cannot exactly explain to anyone. That God speaking to your very being that too often you cannot verbalize.
And I look around at those people in my world and I am grateful. Grateful that in the midst of all this we love. For me it is those who listen to my rambling as I seek to know what is next. For me it is to hopefully encourage those in my world as they seek to find what God would have for them in the midst of all this crazy imperfect life.
One thing that is dangerous about blogging is the often one way conversation that I have. Many of you may sit out there and shake your heads. To say “you have lost your mind.” “Do you REALLY think that is how it goes?” And contrary to many, I do enjoy some constructive critisicm. A challenge to my thinking. Because despite what many may think I DON’T have the corner market on being right. If you think I do, just spend about 10 minutes with me. Haha
The one constant I cling to in the midst of all this is God Almighty. Because in my lack of knowing what to say, what to do, how to be He is constant. And my prayers for many of my closest friends (include family in this “friends” word) has become for the Lord to have His way. For His love to be known in my friends hearts in such a way that anything Satan may say will be seen and denied by the Love and Truth in their lives. Because too often I have seen that my prayers have given too much of my two cents. And a lot of times I just don’t know what to say about what is coming. What is God’s plan. In my life much less someone else’s life. So I simply say “Holy Spirit, do what you do. Speak. Speak love. Speak truth. Speak hope. Speak peace. Speak joy. And if I can help do that, please show me how I can join in with you.”
So as I was jogging yesterday I spoke with the Lord about a list of people who are dear to my heart. For whatever He has coming. For tomorrow. For 6 months from now. That He would speak. That He would work. For it is too often not the destination, but the journey with Him that matters. And too often we expect that when we get “there” it will bet “that” and when we look back we see all that happened on the way and see that it was that that made us grow. And change.
And for me. In my transitions that God you would indeed show up and speak in such a way that my sometimes blind, deaf self would see and hear it. And I am grateful that you do. And grateful that hopefully on the way You would use my deaf and blind self who only sees and hears because of YOU to encourage others along the way. To cheer them on. Broken limping running crawling jumping cheering them on as we journey through life. Because of You we are not alone. Because of You we are the body. And the body functions better together.
So how’s that for rambling?
Here’s the end:
“I implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love. Being diligent to preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in on hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith one baptism, one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all.” Ephesians 4:1-6
