available for Him- His purpose, His glory

So…. for the 5's of you who read this out there…yes, I am still alive.

For your reading pleasure…here are a few bloggable moments that won't quite get their due but I felt I should mention:

  • Have you been to the mall lately?  I don't frequent it.  Maybe every 4 months, probably more like 6 months I make it to the good ol University Mall.  Usually to stop in, pick up one thing and head out.  And maybe stop by Chick-Fil-A.  I would probably go more- but since they don't have the real deal Great American Cookie Company I just have little to do there.  Yes, I am a task oriented shopper.  As in, unless I am with somebody, I typically don't wander around the mall.  ANYWAY.  I do have a point.  Hang with me.  I was in the mall with a friend the other day and happened past this yellow mostly round shaped booth thing.  It had "79MPH" plastered across the side.  Turns out you can pay $2 to stand in this cabinet thing and have hurricane (a low rated hurricane, albeit hurricane) force winds blown around you.  I had to laugh.  Really?  Only in America.  I just wonder if the guy who put that thing there actually makes any money off of it.

  • Item 2- went a store in the mall (same night, same friend, random stop in random store on friend's whim) and there was a girl in there.  With really tight jeans on.  With the stickers on them.  Yep, she was trying them on and wandered out of the dressing room with them on.  She had on a short dress with the jeans under them.  As we walked in the store and back towards the fitting room corner she headed back to the fitting room and reimerged without the jeans.  And stepped behind the check out counter.  Yep, you got it. She works there.  Guess she was bored and decided to try on some jeans.  Interesting thing is, there were already 3 other people in the front of the store shopping when we walked in.  Guess they didn't need anything at the time.  I don't know why this struck me as funny, but it sure did.
  • And have I mentioned I work at a nursing home? Well, I do now.  Interesting place.  Interesting folks.  I am learning a lot about people.  And as I said the last time, a lot about their brokenness.  And the value of truth spoken into people's lives.  And the quirkiness of folks.  And if you ever get bored, call me.  I got some people that could use some attention and love.
  • And today I went to what I think may be the smallest funeral I have been to yet.  It was for a resident.  Let me just say, I would rather go to a funeral rather than a visitation or for you old school folks- a viewing.  I ended up going to both on this one.  I think it was one of the most unique funerals I have been to yet (outside of one…but I will blog about that later).  What made it so unique was the simplicity of it.  One of the really young family members shared- through her tears she talked about her grandmother and quoted some really great scripture.  I could tell it was one of those things she was hesistant to do, but felt she needed to do it.  It was a good moment.  And then the other family member came up.  About 3 feet tall at the most.  Maybe 6 years old.  They got her a chair to stand in behind the podium and told her "we're ready when you are."  And she sang "Jesus Loves Me."  It wasn't loud, it wasn't elaborate.  Just a little girl singing the best song she knew she could sing when people were sad.  And she ended it with "God loves everybody"  If I knew the family better I think I would have stood as I applauded.  I hope that in the midst of the heaven party somebody up there got to witness that besides the Holy Trinity.  Because it was good.

I'll try to be more regular with my posting from now on.  Not having internet at the hacienda has slowed things up.  It's not lack of material.  Just lack of connectedness.    Thanks for the comments and emails.
