available for Him- His purpose, His glory

Yes, I am still finding things that I think are funny/odd/heartbreaking about the world that we live in. Beware the randomness ahead….

The “mosquito man” You know the guy/gal in the truck that drives around the neighborhood spraying that mysterious yellow chemical to kill our flying enemy. I was taking out my trash last week and heard him coming. It brought to mind when I was little and got caught on another street when he came. My friend and I ran up to someone’s door to try to hide our faces so we wouldn’t breathe in the fumes. I wonder what my friends in Uganda would think about it…

The amazing new playground that I spent about 18 hours helping to install this weekend. I love it, can’t wait to play on it, to see the kids play on it. But I am struck by how much money we spent on it, how many man/woman hours were spent on planning, listening to vendors, getting folks to give money, and putting it up (plus all those who brought food and drinks for us!) Yet again my mind goes to the kids in Buloba. If we could teleport them here, I think their minds might freeze as they wonder what do do with it.

The craziness in Zimbabwe. In case you didn’t know- there is a new leader in Zimbabwe. He says he was elected. The people say he wasn’t. It was a sham, fraud, and mandatory voting. The streets are empty, the people are hiding. One dollar right now will net you I think 2 billion in Zimbabwe currency. I think it is 25 billion for new shoes. A guy on tv tonight has a pair that are worn out because he can’t afford them. It breaks my heart that things like this can still happen in our “civilized” world.

Orange Dreamsicle Bars. Love them. Next to Fudgesicles they are my favorite treat on a stick. Oh wait, next to frozen bananas dipped in chocolate. And I can go to the store down the street and pick up a box of like 24… But it is hard to find full size cokes in glass bottles like I can in Uganda. (they don’t have plastic bottles- they reuse the glass)

The Bachlorette- Jessie, Jason…who will she chose? The whole show is crazy to imagine 15 years ago. I wonder what my mom would think? Glad my dating life is not on world tv…oh wait, I don’t have a dating life…hmmm no problems there.

The Olympic trials- people who swim, run, bike, or whatever their sport is… Everyday. All Day. It’s their job. It makes me tired just thinking about it. And I am awestruck. I can’t wait to see the Iraqi folks represent. (And all the other random “little” countries. I almost want to cheer for them to beat us, but I can’t…)

I love that God watches me. Watches us. In the middle of where we are, He sees. When we can’t sleep at night, have too much to do, have a day that makes your face want to crack because you smiled so much. A day you get random crazy bruises from the random crazy fun you had. When we feel helpless to do something He whispers “bring it to me, Let ME do it” He delights to hear us ask for His help to do His work. And I love when He does it- because He does it better. Makes me long for heaven, just to see Him and say thanks.

Thanks for watching the random train go by… jump on the caboose if you want to ride…

I love this post Andi. Great outpouring of your brain. Fun to read…except for the Zimbabwe thing. And yes, I had the same thoughts about our little Buloba friends as we worked on the playground.
