I think the main theme that keeps echoing through my head when I think about our trip to New Orleans is that God is faithful. Obviously I knew this before the trip but somehow I always seem to forget and try to plan things and force things to be my way. I forget to take time to listen to God’s voice or just to trust that God will take care of things. I saw his faithfulness in the 9th ward as he gives people the resources and help to slowly rebuild the neighborhood. I saw his faithfulness in Ms. Earleen who remained a constant source of energy, laughter, and faithfulness (even in those of us who were unskilled laborers) in spite of seeing her house and business be completely destroyed by the hurricane and in spite of all the evil she saw after the storm. I saw God’s faithfulness in the homeless man that gave his leftover food to another man and in the homeless man that gave one of two dollars he had to another. God is ever present and always working on us. God provides for us just what we need. While I loved getting to go express God’s love in the giving of cokes, food, and service God was working on me and my heart the whole time, showing me how much he is in control. God truly is Jehovah-Jireh, God who will provide!!! (Genesis 22:14)
